Lucky Bamboo

I LOVE me some bamboo. They are easy to grow, they have so much personality, and best of all....did I mention they are easy to grow? What I LOVE is the history and tradition of giving bamboo for special occasions. Before cell phones and other mass forms of media, families communicated love and good fortune over vast areas, using bamboo arrangements for communication.

Basically, the number of bamboo stalks used in an arrangement, communicated they type of good wishes that were sent! For example, an arrangement with TWO pieces of bamboo, is a good wish of Love. The word "two," carries with it the meaning for double or twined, strongly suggesting that good things come in pairs and is often used to imply double happiness.

Here is the breakdown of bamboo symbolism:

• One stalk represents good wishes on a new endeavor.

• Three stalks represent Fu (happiness), Lu (wealth), and Soh (long life).
